Brexit iOS price hike - 8 iPhone games Brits should buy before it's too late

Reports suggest that the UK App Store is set to receive sweeping price hikes due to the plummeting pound. Thanks again, Brexit.

Over the coming days, the various App Store pricing tiers in the UK will be bumped up by around 25%, resulting in like-for-like parity with the US App Store. That is, a 99c app will cost 99p in the UK. Needless to say, this is not good value for us Brits.

With that in mind, we thought we'd demonstrate how this would effect UK iOS users by picking out some of the premium-priced games that are in for the heftiest price increases.

We're calling the before and after price the 'Current price' and the 'Brexit price' respectively. Because lets face it, this is at the heart of Apple's imminent decision, whether you think it's a proportionate response or not.

Buy them now, before they get a lot more expensive!

Square Enix's JRPG masterpiece arguably earns its premium price with dozens of hours worth of engrossing gameplay. But a £5 price hike might make you think twice.

Brexit price: £20.99

Again, we can't really complain at Sports Interactive's premium pricing for Football Manager Touch 2017 - it's an entire sprawling PC game on your tablet. But the new £5 price premium might stick in the throat a little.

Just the £4 hike for free-roaming social monster-hacker Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. Eesh.

Another epic JRPG from the master of epic JRPGs. In just a few days time, Dragon Quest VIII will hit the 3DS for around double the current price of the iOS version. That gap will soon close significantly, though.

This War of Mine was an emotional game already, but the imminent Brexit-induced £4 price rise might induce tears for a whole different reason.

Okay, so Super Mario Run's £2 price hike won't be the steepest increase out there. But given that many Brits grumbled at having to pay the current price, it's unlikely to be particularly popular.

Slitherine makes a lot of premium-priced strategy games that earn their money through their excellence. Battle Academy 2 is one of the very best, but even then, a £5 increase is rather pushing it.

When it comes to recommending the phenomenal XCOM: Enemy Unknown, the game's price has never really come into it. Will that still be so when it's bumped up by £2? Probably, but it's still not great, is it?
