Zune, Microsoft’s collective name for its music marketplace and subscription service, is finally heading to Europe later this year, and it has Windows Phone 7 in its sights.

You can either download tracks piecemeal from Zune Marketplace, or cough up £8.99 a month for unlimited access to the entire catalogue with a ‘Zune Pass’. Whichever you choose, you can then send the downloaded tracks to your PC, Xbox 360 or Windows Phone 7 device.

Same goes for rented films. Currently, movies can be rented via your Xbox 360. When Zune hits Europe, you’ll be able to choose which device you want to watch the film on: including Windows Phone 7.

While all this is fabulous, Microsoft makes no mention of the uber-slick Zune HD MP3 player. Ostensibly the iPod touch to Windows Phone 7’s iPhone, the game-playing device is still stuck in the US.

The service will hit the UK in the autumn, according to Microsoft. Presumably it will debut alongside Windows Phone 7, which is heavily rumoured to be launching on our shores this October.
