iPod touch killer on the way? Zune HD video hints at gaming potential
Strongly
The Zune HD has us dangling from tenterhooks (whatever the hell tenterhooks are - I imagine them to be those chains Pinhead uses in Hellraiser), and although we'll be dangling a lot longer over here in the UK, Microsoft is ramping up its September launch of the iPod touch killer.
We've been following the re-development of the Zune very closely, suspecting for a long while that Microsoft wouldn't be so short sighted as to create a powerhouse media player like this and not include games in its roster.
A new video released to show off the Zune HD's gorgeous OLED touchscreen and other functions provides the first evidence that this will be the case.
In the recently released promo video below, around the 30 second mark our tuneful narrator casually mentions gaming as one of the Zune HD's functions, and an image can clearly be seen showing a racing game running on the device (looks a bit like OutRun, to me).
This isn't a massive surprise, but it'll be interesting to see how the Zune HD gets its games, and how closely this aspect ties in with Xbox Live.
The Zune HD is being released in the US tomorrow, so stay tuned for more news as we get it.
