It’s feeding time

Keep your lions, giraffes and tigers happy but don’t try any monkey tea-parties in Zoo Tycoon

Not one for animal liberationalists (although they could always play to lose), Zoo Tycoon is one of the those cuddly, cute games - you know - for the kids.

Set out in the typical simulation-style, you’re in charge of a zoo and your goal is expansion. To do this you’ll have to build up an exciting selection of animals, such as lions, giraffes and tigers, while keeping your visitors happy with cash-sucking outlets such as gift shops and hamburger joints.

Of course, you’ll have to keep your animals happy too or your visitors will get upset and stop spending their money, so there is a slight ecological hint to the game (stop sniggering at the back Mr Swampy). Indeed, there’s even a selection of animal cards to collect, which tell you all about the various animals available in the game.

The real fun however comes from designing the enclosures for the animals; something the DS’s touchscreen should make pretty easy to handle. And the better you look after your animals, the more rewards and unlockable animals and environments will become available.
