The undead take a bite out of the Apple

One of the first games to ever court media controversy was Exidy's Death Race way back in 1976. To try and stem the flow of negative feeling toward its game, Exidy told the courts that the little stick figures on the screen, who you were compelled to run down in your car, were actually zombies.

Killing the undead is socially more acceptable, you see.

Anyway, some 32 years on, and Fuel Industries' Zombie Drive is gearing up (ho ho) for release onto the iPhone. The graphics and controls have obviously progressed a lot from Exidy's retro classic, but the concept is pretty much the same – get behind the wheel and mow down those flesh-hungry monsters.

Zombies are big business these days, and make just as good video game characters as they do film stars, so we're really looking forward to seeing Zombie Drive.

It should be with us in the next few days, so don't forget to hit the 'Track It!' button. In the meantime, check out the gameplay video below, then break out your lead boots in anticipation.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
