Relaxing rope-twisting puzzle sequel Zen Bound 2 is no longer exclusive to the iPad, with developer Secret Exit updating the tablet game to work across both the iPad and its pint-sized cousin, the iPhone.

As long as you have iOS 3.1 or later, the game will run on any app-enabled device, but it’s best played on the latest hardware as the game makes use of the all the features and processing power available in more recent gadgets.

Those playing on a 3GS or third-generation iPod touch, for example, will see smoother visuals, improved shadows and sharper lighting, while iPhone 4 owners will see high-detail graphics designed for the Retina display. The latest iPhone’s gyro sensor is also used, allowing for increased accuracy when twisting the rope.

It also features fast app-switching multitasking on iOS 4 compatible devices, and a number of fixes and tweaks for the iPad edition. All players will also get access to gameplay achievements, perfect for Zen Bound veterans who want to squeeze even more challenge out of the series.

As the game runs on any device you’ll throw at it, and makes great use of everything Apple’s shoved in its entire fleet of gadgets, Zen Bound 2 is a shining example for iPhone development that other creators should certainly follow.

Zen Bound 2 Universal is available now for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad for £1.79 / $2.99 / €2.39.
