The Zeemote JS1 is a handheld, wireless analogue joystick for your pocket gaming pleasures, and being the pixel addled game addicts we are here at Pocket Gamer, we think these things are worth their weight in unicorn meat.

And although it comes across as something of a ploy to shoehorn a bit more Zeemote support into the mobile games industry, the news that the Zeemote Ready Developers Contest 2009 has been launched is altogether pretty exciting.

The competition invites developers to submit new or modified games that make use of the analogue controller, and/or the multiplayer function the small stick of joy offers.

“2008 was an extremely successful year for Zeemote and we have lots of people to thank for such fantastic growth, especially our developer partners who created many innovative Zeemote Ready game titles to deliver the World’s Best Mobile Gaming Experience,” says Ernie Cormier, CEO at Zeemote.

“Our goal in 2009 is to continue to advance the revolution in mobile gaming by delivering even more Zeemote Ready titles to gamers. This contest empowers our developers to take Zeemote Ready Games to the next level by taking full advantage of the Zeemote JS1’s unique capabilities such as analogue controls or the ability for simultaneous multiplayer gaming.”

The competition will kick off at GDC 09, with entries accepted until July 15th. The winners will be announced by a panel of media and industry professionals on August 17th, where a grand prize of $7500 and ‘a shot at game distribution’ will be awarded.

The first runner-up will also receive $2500 and the same ambiguous offer for having their game distributed.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
