Zed launches multiplayer mobile poker game

Poker is an ideal fit for mobile multiplayer, what with it being turn-based, which avoids problem of lag-laden connections.

That said, running a multiplayer mobile poker game is still an impressive technical achievement, which is why so few publishers have done it here in Europe.

The latest is mobile content firm Zed, which has launched Zed Poker – Texas Hold 'em Online. It's available to premium subscribers to the company's Club Zed service.

The game involves competing for virtual cash, although you'll also earn points to make your way up (or down) the global rankings. You can compete in tournaments, play against friends, or drop into random games full of strangers.

Zed has included in-game chat, the ability to add other players to your buddy list, as well as an internal email system to arrange games so you're all online at the same time.

There's also an Xbox Live style achievements system, which makes it possible to get free wallpapers by performing certain actions within the game.
