Fishlabs puts its foot down again

Mazda celebrates 20 years of the MX-5 with free iPhone racing game

Firmly stamping its reputation as the prime developer of iPhone advergames, it's another day another release for German studio Fishlabs.

Yesterday it released its second game based on a Barclaycard advert, while today - after releasing four driving games for VW - it's got a brand new drive in the low slung form of Mazda's MX-5.

Strangely, the game's formally called You Cruise by Mazda MX-5, which could get you into trouble in certain locales. Its release celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Japanese roadster.

In terms of virtual locations, you get to race through eight scenarios set in Country Cruise, Ocean Motion, Desert Ride, and Mountain Thrill themes.

You can choose between closed and open top versions of the Mazda MX-5 and three paint jobs.

Based on Fishlabs's Rally Master Pro game, the driving physics have been reworked, now offering a higher top speed and modified banking dynamics.

Of course, your best lap times can be shared on Facebook and compared via the leaderboard system, while you can connect with the real world thanks to the nearest dealer search option, which also enables you to arrange a test drive.

"As early adopters, MX-5 drivers have a positive reaction to an app like this and thus will become virtual brand ambassadors," said Jules Aarts, customer interaction manager with Mazda Motors Deutschland.

"We see an opportunity here to emotionally connect the offline and online driving experiences."
