YetiSports: Summer Games

It may be one of the leading figures in the realm of cryptozoology but even the legendary Yeti deserves a bit of leisure time, as is evidenced by this selection of exciting pastimes served up by developer Xendex.

Assuming the role of the mythical ape-like beast, you’re given the opportunity to indulge in one of four dubious sports. Of this quartet, Jungle Swing is possibly the most accessible and enjoyable. The aim is to get as high into the jungle canopy as possible by using the Yeti’s momentum to fling it onto loftier branches.

Big Wave sees our hairy protagonist hopping aboard his freshly-waxed surf board and taking to the ocean. Here you can perform stunts for additional points, although the main objective is to catch as many pesky penguins as possible.

The delightfully-named Albatross Overload also features a penguin, although this time it’s being used as an unwilling projectile. Throw the poor bird as far as possible and it will eventually latch onto a passing albatross, which - with careful button manipulation - should carry it a tremendous distance.

The fourth and final activity is Flamingo Drive, a twisted take on golf where our Yeti hero once again subjects his longsuffering penguin companion to the ignominy of long-distance flight - although this time a flamingo is used to send the winged victim skywards.

All of the games showcase simple controls and are driven by the player’s simple desire to rank as high a score as possible. The game also records the top five scores in each event, which obviously grants scope for friendly competition with friends.

It’s a shame that more events weren’t included, or that there wasn’t a little more variety between them (Flamingo Drive and Albatross Overload are very similar) but there’s no denying the disarmingly addictive nature of these highly unlikely sporting events.

YetiSports: Summer Games

With only four events the appeal of YetiSports: Summer Games isn’t going to last forever, but there’s enough entertainment here to placate budding finger-athletes

Damien's mum hoped he would grow out of playing silly video games and gain respectable employment. Perhaps become a teacher or a scientist, that kind of thing. Needless to say she now weeps openly whenever anyone asks how her son's getting on these days.
