The Xperia Play’s built-in PlayStation emulator has been reverse-engineered to play custom-made ISO files, thanks to a developer at XDA (a forum of experts and hackers of Windows Mobile and Android devices).

“I’ve been playing around with the new Xperia Play (well, with the speed of these Android phone releases, it’s already old),” the aforementioned developer yifanlu writes.

“I’ve decided it would be a challenge to try to figure out how the PSone emulator works and eventually be able to inject any ISO and play it with Sony superior PS1 emulator.”

After working on it for a week, yianflu finally got an ISO file of Crash Bandicoot 3 working fully using the PlayStation Pocket feature. The only thing that isn’t working is the game’s manual. He also says that making multi-disc titles work would be a little trickier.
