A little later than expected, Sony and Tozai Games's remake of the classic 1983 puzzle-platformer Lode Runner is out now exclusively for the Xperia Play.

In each of Lode Runner X's 130 2D levels, your job is to avoid guards while filling your pockets with the piles of gold that are scattered around the five environments. Once you've pinched every shiny on-screen object, you're free to move on to the next screen.

But, those single-minded sentries make this harder than it sounds, so you'll need to make cunning use of ladders, handrails, and your trusty blaster to make it safely through each level.

Of course, the Xperia Play's physical controls will be a boon to players here, allowing you to concentrate on the frantic platforming rather than grumble about some imprecise touchscreen interface.

Tozai Games has also been kind enough to add a Puzzle mode to Lode Runner X, so you can take a break from the manic main game to indulge in some sedate problem solving. Should you be so inclined.

Lode Runner X is available now as a free download from Google Play [download], and is exclusive to the Xperia Play.
