Microsoft allowing Xbox Live iPhone apps... but only if they're free
|

If you're a console gamer, one of the interesting things about the iPhone App Store is the availability of apps that let you connect to your Xbox Live account.

One such was Xbox Live Friends, developed by a firm called 1337pwn. It cost £2.99, but offered pretty powerful features – unsurprising given the fact that the developer is a member of Microsoft's Xbox Live Community Developer Program.

However, the app has just been made free, on Microsoft's orders. A post on the 1337pwn blog explains why:

"Microsoft is halting the sale of any Xbox Live related applications in the iTunes App Store. As official XCDP developers, we've always been cooperative as they've been consistently great to us. Per a conversation with them this morning, they will let us continue distributing our application for FREE."
It's good to see this innovative app wasn't whipped off the App Store. If you balked at paying £2.99 to access Xbox Live from your iPhone, now's the time to download the newly-free app.
