World Series of Poker raises on mobile phones

Glu preparing two titles based on the world's top poker tournament

World Series of Poker raises on mobile phones

Research earlier this week showed that a fifth of the best-selling mobile games in the US are poker titles. That's a lot of card-sharps in the making.

Poker isn't quite as popular in Europe, but it's building up a head of steam. Indeed, several high-quality games are already out, such as Gameloft's Midnight Poker and Mforma's World Poker Tour.

Glu Mobile is joining the bandwagon with arguably the top poker brand in the world. The World Series of Poker is a prestigious series of tournaments that has been going for nearly 70 years, and Glu is making not one, but two mobile games based on it. Well, kind of.

The first is World Series of Poker Texas Hold'em, a game that will include single and multiplayer modes. It will also feature real-life poker pros who between them have trousered more than $10 million in the real world.

Meanwhile, World Series of Poker Player Advisor isn't a game as such – more an application. Glu hasn't released any details yet, apart from saying it's a 'companion product' that will help improve your poker skills. Educational, in other words.

They'll both be out this autumn, giving you plenty of time to swot up on your flops in readiness.
