It’s not quite Bookworm Adventures, but it’ll do for now. Faro Entertainment borrows PopCap’s idea in this newly released iPhone and iPod touch game, World Warrior.

The word warfare game looks like a side-scrolling RPG. You move across the landscape and take on beastly enemies, but instead of choosing attacks or swapping stats you deck enemies by spelling out words. The longer and more complicated the word, the stronger your attack.

There are also elemental letter tiles to deal extra damage, and different battle modes that have you spelling out words of a certain length, or starting with a specific letter. You can also customise your block-headed hero with armour and weapons you unlock.

To celebrate its launch, the game is free today, and will head back to its usual price, £1.19 / $1.99 / €1.59, tomorrow. Be aware, the game requires a slightly more beefy breed of iPhone, and won’t work on the iPhone 3G or lower.
