Jump your sheep to safety in Woolly the Jumper

Sheep aren't Christmas animals but the latest iPhone game from UK startup Assyria Game Studio manages to get some festive spirit into proceedings.

Called Woolly the Jumper: A Sheep on the Edge, it has you playing through the seasons from spring to winter, collecting items such as fruit, candy canes and Christmas puddings along the way, as you jump Woolly to safety across numerous perilous cliffs.

Keeping a surreal atmosphere to the fore, you have to perform these jumps in a timed environment, with the threat of Farmer Brown - who's flying around with his shearing clippers and jet pack - ready to remove Woolly's fluffy coat if you don't complete the level in time.

At least the jumping mechanic is fairly straightforward. You just place your finger on the screen and you can see the power and angle of that jump displayed in the top left of the screen, which you can then adjust.

Being arcadey in terms of gameplay, the whole thing is a bit hit and miss in terms of the exact nature of the jumps. Sometimes you'll end up jumping over one landing spot but happily falling onto the next. Sometimes not, of course.

Woolly the Jumper: A Sheep on the Edge is out now, priced 99c, €0.79 or 59p.
