CES 2012: Nokia unveils LTE equipped Lumia 900 on AT&T, bound for US in 'coming months'

Given Nokia had sent out a handy presser in the hours leading up to its CES 2012 press conference (and countless rumours in the weeks running up to the event), the unveiling of the firm's next Windows Phone – the Lumia 900 – was no great surprise.

Neither was the design. The handset, like its smaller cousin the Lumia 800, sports a sleek polycarbonate shell available in both black and cyan.

Spec-wise, however, the 900 has one or two advantages over Nokia's other Windows Phones to date.

For starters, it sports both front and back camera – the main camera on the rear offering the 8MP Carl Zeiss lens Lumia 800 owners will be used to, while the front facing camera delivers what Nokia claims is 'superior video conferencing'.

The 4.3-inch display also outclasses the 3.7-inch screen featured on the Lumia 800, though it'll feature the same ClearBack AMOLED touchscreen, as well as a 1.4 GHz CPU.

Importantly for the US, it'll also be the first 4G LTE handset Nokia has launched in the region, rolling out first on AT&T, but with other carriers likely to follow according to cryptic answers given by CEO Stephen Elop in the post-conference Q&A session.

An exact launch date remained elusive, however, with reference to a roll-out in the "coming months" the only clue.

Likewise, no details were given regarding any release in the UK or Europe, though – if it happens – expect details on any equivalent device at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, which kicks off on February 27th.
