Age of Empires is coming to Windows Phone and Windows 8.1 in the shape of Age of Empires: Castle Siege.

And if you're good and make sure you defrag all of your hard drives properly it'll almost certainly come out next month.

The game is free to play, because old franchises don't die, they just gouge.

A cynic might suggest that, from the trailer above, the game looks like a Clash of Clans clone with Age of Empires branding dribbled over it to entice fans of the series. And since I am a cynic, that's exactly what I'm suggesting.

We don't have a concrete release date for the game, but it's playable at PAX this week, so it shouldn't be too long before it hits the Windows Store. We'll let we know as soon as we hear anything.
