Windows Phone overtakes iPhone in China
|

A rare piece of encouraging news for the 'third choice' mobile OS, Windows Phone, today.

According to Microsoft (so take this with a pinch of salt), the market share in China of its tile-driven mobile platform has overtaken the iPhone's after just two months on sale.

The numbers being touted by the company aren't that impressive on paper - Windows Phone occupies 7 per cent of the total smartphone market in the region, compared to the iPhone's 6 per cent - but when you take into consideration the sheer size of the country, any lead Windows Phone has over iPhone will translate into a fair few thousand handsets.

However, that's a long way behind the current emperor of Chinese smartphone operating systems, Android, which currently makes up a whopping 69 per cent of the market.
