NES emulator for Windows Phone 7 facing Microsoft rejection

Unofficial emulators are no strangers to falling foul of piracy regulations, and the latest NES emulator created for Windows Phone 7 is experiencing familiar legal difficulties.

Matt Bettcher has been advised by Microsoft that his open source emulator, which currently runs at 10-20 frames per second on a Samsung Focus, will not be allowed on the Windows Phone Marketplace.

With Mario and friends unlikely to make an appearance on any handheld not manufactured by Nintendo, the developer is hoping that community support will help to change Microsoft’s mind over the app. If it makes it to the Marketplace, it'll be free.
