Windows Mobile getting Augmented Reality App

Korean developer answers the call of WinMo users everywhere

Every generation of technology showcases its fair share of buzz words and for the current crop of mobile phones the term everyone is falling over themselves to use is 'augmented reality'.

Up until now this enticing new concept - which on its most basic level involves your handset taking your current location and overlaying nearby points of interest over the live feed from the phone’s camera - has been making waves on Apple’s iPhone and Nintendo’s DSi, but thankfully Windows Mobile users are about to get a slice of the pie, too.

Korean firm HyongaSoft is prepping the launch of OMPASS World Cities, which points you in the direction of various famous conurbations and then helpfully flags up with relevant information when you get there, such as the location of landmarks and so on.

The app is currently undergoing final testing and should be available soon, so if you’re sick and tired of your iPhone-owning mates showing off their Augmented Reality programs, then you’ll soon be able to get in on the action yourself.

Damien's mum hoped he would grow out of playing silly video games and gain respectable employment. Perhaps become a teacher or a scientist, that kind of thing. Needless to say she now weeps openly whenever anyone asks how her son's getting on these days.
