Windows Mobile ad takes a shot at iPhone

And all its novelty apps

They say that attack is the best form of defence. Who are 'they'? Oh, you know, mainly sports journalists and militant right wing types.

It seems that Microsoft is adopting the very same philosophy over its desperately undercooked Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system, which was rushed out to plug the gap left by the long-delayed Windows Mobile 7.

A recent ad from the software giant appears to take a swipe at the iPhone and its huge array of novelty and - let’s face it - often worthless apps. It shows two ‘engineers’ recounting some of the WinMo apps that didn’t make the grade, including a “Great Moustaches of the World” app and a blatant Pong rip-off.

The ad follows hot on the heels of a similarly catty (though not as good-humoured) anti-Apple ad from US network Verizon, which lists all the things the Android-powered Droid can do that the iPhone can’t.

Apple is certainly up there to be shot at, and it appears that its competitors are rolling out the heavy artillery.
