[Update] AT&T gets fragged as Halo: Spartan Assault will launch first as a Verizon exclusive in the US
Carrier wars
Windows 8 gamers had cause to celebrate in June, when 343 Industries announced its twin-stick Halo spin-off Halo: Spartan Assault would come out for Windows Phone 8 smartphones and Windows 8 tablets.
These gamers might want to take a few steadying breaths before reading further, however.
Joystiq reports that Halo: Spartan Assault will come to the US exclusively via Verizon Wireless - at least initially.
Rage quit
Thankfully for those on AT&T, Verizon notes that the Windows Phone 8 version of Spartan Assault will come "First to Verizon Wireless" - which indicates that it'll roll out to other carriers after a period of exclusivity is up.
Verizon didn't share any details about how long the exclusive period would last, but notes that Halo: Spartan Assault will cost $6.99 (~£4.60).
If you don't have a Windows 8 Phone, Halo: Spartan Assault will also come to Windows 8 PCs and tablets.
Halo: Spartan Assault is expected to be released in the US by the end of July.
Update - Windows Phone Central has confirmed with Microsoft that the Windows 8 (tablet/PC) version of Spartan Assault will launch simultaneously with the Verizon-exclusive phone version and the international Windows Phone 8 versions of the game. There is still no word on how long Verizon's exclusivity will last in the US.
