All I want for Christmas is my S-AMOLED screen back

Samsung has blown the lid on the release date for the successor to its flagship bada handset today, the Wave II, placing it firmly in ‘Christmas treat’ territory.

The company’s official UK Twitter account didn’t have an exact date for the slightly worse-than-the-one-it's-replacing bada phone, but it did put to rest earlier reports that the handset would be winging its way to the UK in November.

The original Wave made a splash (sorry) in Europe a few months back, selling in its millions having been priced at a mid-range smartphone level despite offering the same powerful CPU/GPU combo as the top-of-the-range Android phone, the Galaxy S.

The Wave II still has the same innards working away at its core, but Samsung has had to replace the excellent S-AMOLED screen with a slightly worse SC-LCD. It is 0.4 inches bigger, though.

While the company hasn’t come out officially to explain the reason for the hardware downgrade, we all suspect it’s due to the widespread AMOLED shortage that’s led to high-end HTC and Samsung phones being incredibly hard to find in recent months.
