Samsung officially announces the Wave II
|

Samsung, the world’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturer, is not really one to commit in the Great Mobile OS wars, it seems.

Alongside its critically and publically acclaimed Galaxy S Android phone, and its planned Windows Phone 7 handsets, it’s also pushing ahead with making handsets for its own bada OS (that’s with a little ‘b’, fact fans).

You may be forgiven for thinking that the newly announced Wave II is, in fact, the Wave ‘2’ – but you’d be wrong. In keeping with confusing everyone with its naming policies, there’s already been a Wave 2 (not due for release in Europe or USA).

Instead, the Wave II is the true successor to the original Wave S8500, coming with a larger screen (3.7 inches to 3.3) and replacing the S-AMOLED found in the original with the easier to keep in stock (at least, for now), Super Clear LCD.

Everything else remains – there’s still the fantastic 1Ghz Hummingbird/PowerVR combo at its core (identical to the Galaxy S), and the 5mp camera is the same surprisingly good model found on its older brother.

The Wave II should be hitting European shores in November, with the German price for an unlocked phone revealed as €428.
