In space, they always say, no one can hear you scream, but it seems the ears of Freeverse, the developer of the just released space combat and trading game Warpgate, have picked up on some of the criticism concerning the game's more passive elements.

As our reviewer Tracy pointed out: "Warpgate HD fails to seize on its potential as a space game, opting for battles that grant you minimal control over the action. ... The game switches to a battle screen which automates ship movement, relegating you to the status of a button-pusher."

The good news then is that the just released v1.1 update provides some significant abilities in terms of increasing your combat interactivity.

Hard to port

Now you can directly control your ship during battles using your iDevice's accelerometer to move and dodge.

You can also switch between weapons and shield with the Shield Boost button, diverting power into your shields. Obviously, this means you can't use your weapons until they've recharged.

And it's been rumoured the forthcoming v1.2 update will add the ability to synchronise your game between different devices via the Plus+ platform.

It's not clear whether this is will work between iPad and iPhone/iPod touch games however (should you own both) as they are separate apps not universal, but technically it should be possible.

Warpgate is out now, priced $7.99, €5.99, or £4.99 for iPad, and $4.99, €3.99 or £2.99 for iPhone.
