THQ strongarms the first WWE 2008 DS screens

Getting pretend hit in the face by a big, hairy man isn't going to harm anyone. No, what's gotta hurt in this context is getting a game like WWE SmackDown vs. RAW 2008 working on the DS. Let's face it, there's a lot of fast-moving, close-in 3D graphics required, to say nothing of the hands-on grappling system.

Until we get our own hands on the game, it's impossible to tell how good the framerate is or the smoothness of the animation. All we currently have to go on is the screens, which to be honest, do look good. (It's just too pretty.)

These two below demonstrate that the wrestlers don't look too blocky and that the facial features of each fighter are easily recognisable, although the righthand screen looks more like a cutscene image than an in-game screen to us.

As for the game's collision system – which is important to give good feedback to the player about the wrestling moves they're trying to pull off – these two screens below show that the wrestlers' bodies are solid and don't cut or clip through each other, something that still happens in games when the 3D graphics aren't set up correctly.

It's another good sign for a game that seems certain to be very popular on the DS when it's released during the autumn.
