We know what you're thinking – the mobile phone needs another block-busting bat and ball game about as much as an exploding battery.

To its credit though, Vortex, from new publisher Black Bull, does at least pledge to bring some fresh features to the genre.

For starters the action is in true 3D, meaning you'll be able to move your jetpack-powered bat closer to those destructible blocks, or even speed backwards for a quick save if you miss the ball first time.

There's also a variety of balls that perform in different ways according to their essential character and power-ups. Fireballs, for instance, spin and swerve to do more damage to the wall.

As you can see from the screens here, all this action has also been tarted up with fancy 3D effects. And, as with its other smartphone release Destiny, Vortex also enables you to flip the screen and customise the controls in order to create your preferred playing setup. (Those weird left-handy people can thus be freed from the tyranny of right-hand button layouts.)

Vortex will be available soon to buy via web-based portals; you can download a demo from the official site to try before you buy. Click 'Try it!' to see that or 'Track It!' to be notified of the official review that'll be breaking onto Pocket Gamer any day now.
