HTC Vive front camera footage takes you to the future

If you've wondered what purpose the new edition of the Vive's camera will serve, have we got the treat for you.
While it's up to developers how exactly this will be used on devices, a gift has shown up of what the Vive user will see when choosing to look through the camera located at the front of the device.

It makes me hope someone is working on a VR Predator game, with the washed out blues and the way it strips out texture makes it look like some sort of fancy vision mode on Splinter Cell or a decent Predator game, if one existed.
Could this be used for AR like experiences, or is it simply to prevent you from falling over the sofa? Only time will tell, and the ingenuity of the developers no doubt already keen to play with the new tech.
