HTC has gone deep on VR. In addition to the premium Vive VR headset it’s also throwing more and more resources to virtual reality as it looks to outrun its competitors and be in the best position if this wave of VR turns into a steady tide.

At a press conference in China today, HTC announced it’d be devoting $100 million to a new virtual reality accelerator program from developers called Vive X with locations in Beijing, San Francisco and Taipei.

Applications are now live on HTC’s site, and in addition to showering you in cash, accelerator participants will also be getting the chance to network with investors and mentors to make sure they’re VR game is the best it can be.

It’s a strong opening from HTC, and at the moment they seem very much like the company with the biggest lead in VR.

“Virtual reality is changing the world, yet to do that effectively it needs a healthy eco-system to expand into the mass market,” said HTC CEO Cher Wang in a statement. “Through HTC Vive, we look forward to enabling global talent to create interesting and compelling content and to help shape the future of this industry.”

Hopefully we’ll see more from the Vive X program in a few months.
