Ladies and gents, get ready to get weird with me as Fifty Shades Darker – you know, the second Grey film – gets a little steamier with the use of VR.

To folks who feel awkward watching things like Fifty Shades of Grey at the cinema, you may not be too excited to hear that James Foley, director of Fifty Shades Darker, has thrown in some extra effort in order to shoot certain sequences in 360-degrees. No, not THOSE scenes…well, maybe those scenes, details are a little spread at the moment.

"Yeah, there's marketing materials for behind-the-scenes. After we finished shooting for the day, the actors would stay over and VR people would re-create a facsimile of the scene." Foley said.

VR is a weird and wonderful thing, totally innocent for most of its areas but plug it into the darker corners of the web and you start getting a little off the beaten track (I'm talking about VR porn and those creepy 'touchie' simulator things).

Granted, curiosity will get the better of me when this comes to light but I expect I'll just end up feeling like the world's biggest third wheel…or just a massive pervert who's stuck in a bathroom and can't really leave until they're, y'know, done.

However, if Foley has resisted the temptation and focused on the bits where everyone's fully clothed this could truly be an exciting step forward for the future of cinema.
