Vector Blaster takes a turn

Retro shooter update adds portrait orientation

Vector Blaster takes a turn

It's not press-stopping news, but fans of the iPhone's Tempest clone Vector Blaster will be intrigued to hear about the game's very welcome update.

The new version of the line drawn shmup now allows you to play in a portrait orientation, which is especially useful on levels where the 'tube' shaped play areas inadvertently wind up rather cramped in landscape mode.

The game requires you to spin the handset quite a lot anyway, but this small adjustment makes a difference as it means the game can be centred while holding the iPhone vertically - otherwise it would send the ship spinning. A minor tweak, but a very useful one.

The update also allows you to alter the accelerometer's sensitivity - something else that's becoming an increasingly expected (and quite necessary) feature of any motion-sensitive game.

Plug in your iPhone and get your Vector Blaster updated as soon as possible, retro heads.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
