Barack Obama (tacitly) endorses handheld gaming
Sort of
That's right, as the clock counts down to America's next presidential election on November 4th (if you're an American, incidentally, please vote for him), Barack Obama's people have put out a TV ad in which home console gamers are identified as apathetic sluggards.
"You can't make history from here," the advert says, while a red arrow jabs accusingly at a Wiimote, the insinuation being that gamers – or "blinking lizards" in the parlance of another politician – are likely to forfeit their votes so that they can play Alvin and the Chipmunks.
It's not a dig at gamers, though. It can't be, because Senator Obama reached out to this demographic a few weeks ago with billboard ads in the open world of Burnout Paradise. He loves and respects gamers.
So what he's saying is, "put down the Wiimote, pick up the DS." QED.
Tenuous? How dare you.
