You might remember we reported recently that organisers of London Games Week were attempting to set a world record for the number of people dressed as video game characters and frightening people in one place.

Well, you'll be pleased to hear, they succeeded and London now holds that record.

The record was broken at the Excel Centre in Docklands on Saturday when 342 gamers dressed up as the likes of Zelda and Solid Snake turned up to support the attempt on the record. That sounds like a lot of people, but only last week Germany set a new record of 337 so actually it was nail-bitingly close.

"It was a bit touch-and-go for a while but the gaming community really stepped up to the challenge," festival organiser Duncan Best told the BBC.

Despite clear rules that characters primarily famous for being in films wouldn't count, 50 idiots still turned up dressed as the likes of Batman. We bet they felt pretty stupid being told to go home while standing there in their black leggings held up by utility belts made out of bottle tops and painted Petit Filous pots.
