Electronic Arts today announced comic book company Marvel and itself would be ending the partnership the two formed back in 2004.

Speaking to GameTap, the games publisher said: "EA and Marvel have jointly agreed to discontinue development of the Marvel titles under the EA Games Label. This was a business decision based on EA's portfolio strategy."

Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects
was the only game released under the deal. It came out on DS and PSP, as well as home consoles, in 2005 but wasn't too favourably received. Following this, there had been rumours of a Marvel fighting game in development at EA's Chicago studio, but the latter was closed towards the end of last year.

In a Marvel statement also issued today, the company stated the move "will not affect Marvel's ongoing plans to release fighting games based on the Marvel properties in the future".
