D2C Games, publisher and developer of downloadable digital entertainment, has revealed it is using its expertise to create a new studio dedicated to bringing comics to the PSP and mobile platforms.

D2 Comics will adapt existing printed comics into digital video form, with original music scores and action directed by the comics' creators, and behind-the-scenes video and commentary to enhance the experience.

The comics will be available to download from this autumn, with The Cryptics and Strange Cases from Steve Niles forming part of the initial product line-up.

"Our goal is to offer an unmatched level of creative control for the artists and writers behind these works," producer for D2 Comics Ludon Lee said from behind a desk-obscuring pile of dog-eared tomes.

"This new form of presentation allows the creators to exert their influence over every nuance of the story, bringing new options to the table for pacing, mood and tone," Lee continued. "We will give fans the chance to watch these stories come to life in the way their favourite creative talents truly intend."

Digital comics is an interesting area that appears to be gathering momentum, particularly on PSP. Check out our selection of the best comics currently available for Sony's handheld.
