iPhone 3GS, Palm Pre, HTC Magic, Motorola Droid compared

Contract price, applications, storage, battery life - which is best?

Product: iPhone news | Manufacturer: Apple
US savings website BillShrink has been put to use in comparing the features of four of the current high-end smartphones, in an effort to quantify the devices for anyone in the market for a next-generation phone.

The iPhone 3GS, Palm Pre, HTC Magic and Motorola Droid were pitted against each other in what turns out to be quite an even fight. Factors such as storage capacity, battery life, number of applications available, connectivity, handset costs (with and without a contract) and the total price you can expect to pay over a 24 month period.

While the Palm Pre and HTC Magic came in a few hundred dollars cheaper than the iPhone 3GS and Motorola Droid, the stark contrast between the iPhone's 93,000 applications and the Pre's 258 ensures that cost won't be the only factor when choosing a smartphone.

The comparison chart is sparking quite a dialogue over the importance of factors such as battery life and multitasking, though it's also interesting to see how similar the specifications of these high-end devices appear when listed side-by-side.

hey! this is not in ANY WAY a good comparison between these phones!!!
WE ALL KNOW that these are not the things we use to choose a phone!
put an N97 there and see what changes... it will be the best of the 5! but why you would choose iPhone or Droid?!
There is a lot more to compare!!!
Look that the number of apps on app store is not a REAL "game changer", since on itunes app store there is a lot of stupid and useless things! you know that spanner! why didnt you make any consideration?!

^ LOL! Thats why Nokia sold so many N series phones right? LOL! The commentary was also well written and thoroughly considered. Anyways! Good find Spencer! It is amazing at how equally matched the phones are! I actually had no idea! What also needs to be displayed is: Polygon count RAM Screen resolution Open programming Themes GAMING Camera Flash When you compare the Palm Pre and iPhone 3GS out of the box the Pre wins as a Phone/Pocket computer. But when you take the Apple App Store into account it is hands down that the iPhone is the winner. I would much rather have a powerful gaming device with some of the best apps made and THE best hacking community. The problem with the iPhone is that all of the cool stuff that the other guys do from the get go... the iPhone has to hack to get... Plus the iPhone does not multi-task. It also does not have a flash for the camera. But like I said where it falls short in those areas it kicks the competitions' butts in app support. Not just in sheer numbers but in quality as well. My buddy has a Pre and it is really cool and all... but the app support just sucks! What good is a piece of hardware if you can't do anything with it? We may have to wait for the 4th or 5th gen iPhone to catch up to the competition in terms of additional hardware and software... but the Apple App Store is by far the best... Not to mention it is single handedly changing the face of the hand held market. tim NOTE: When it is all said and done all 4 are a great choice. If I had to choose a phone other than the iPhone I would go with the Pre.
