Following Team17's ‘misplaced’ announcement that Worms 2: Armageddon was already available on the App Store, the studio has now confirmed that the embattled invertebrates will be landing on iPhone and iPad very soon.

In “less than two weeks”, in fact, is the official timeframe given by the Leeds-based publisher on the arrival of the critically lauded Worms sequel on iOS.

Originally, Team17 wanted to release its Worms v. 2.0.4 update (bringing an extra landscape theme and a pair of speechbanks to the battleground) simultaneously with Worms 2: Armageddon, but decided to push out the original game’s extra content first.

The first turn-based artillery title blasted onto iPhone 16 months ago, collecting a Pocket Gamer Bronze Award in the process.

One of our main criticisms was the omission of online multiplayer, which has been promised by the developer for nigh on a year as part of an in-app update. Hopefully Team17 has finally found a solution to its multiplayer conundrum.

If it's anything like its console counterparts, Worms 2: Armageddon on iPhone and iPad will also offer a brand new single-player campaign with 30 missions, a Training mode, a shop, and six new weapons.

There’s no news yet on pricing, though we're betting that Worms 2: Armageddon will launch onto iPhone and iPad at £2.99 / $4.99 / €3.99.
