 WARHAMMER 40,000: SQUAD COMMAND NEWS

Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command marching towards DS and PSP

Games Workshop's new title to make handheld debut this autumn

Product: Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command | Publisher: THQ | Genre: Card/ board game, Shooter, Strategy | Networking: wireless (adhoc), wireless (network)
THQ has announced a new Warhammer 40,000 title, marking the franchise's debut on handheld. Squad Command features an original single-player campaign, in which, according to THQ's blurb, you play as the 'elite Space Marines of the Ultramarines chapter and strive to combat the encroaching evil of the ruthless and demonic influenced Chaos Space Marines through 13 cinematically tied missions'.

In addition, there is the possibility for head-to-head encounters across nine unique maps between two to eight players through either local or global games. The multiplayer segment enables you to pick from two Space Marine chapters or two Chaos Space Marine Legions, in battles between Imperium vs Imperium, Forces of Chaos vs Forces of Chaos, or Imperium vs Forces of Chaos.

Whether in single- or multiplayer, you obviously won't be fighting with sticks. Over 20 ranged and close-combat weapons taken from the Warhammer 40,000 universe are promised, including the Bolter, Plasma Gun, Chainsword and Power Fist.

The publisher also claims that the fully destructible, real-time 3D battlefields mean that no two games are the same. We'll be able to test that come autumn, when the game is expected to make its debut on both DS and PSP.

That could be really nice, if they do it right.
