 TR2N NEWS

Tron game to tie in with Tr2n movie sequel release

Exactly as it did in 1982

Product: Tr2n | Publisher: Disney Interactive | Genre: Film/ TV tie- in
At the time, Tron really wasn't all that popular, but over the years - as people gradually began to understand the concept and jargon - it's been revealed as a cult classic. So it's massive news that a film sequel, dubbed Tr2n, is to be released by Disney in 2011.

Back in 1982 the coin-op Tron games were released to support the movie launch, and actually saw a greater revenue than the film that inspired them.

Although it's only a rumour (from sources close to Variety) that Disney Interactive Studios are currently in talks with developers to do likewise with Tr2n, it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that there'll be a renewed Tron gaming mania, so we're quite happy to believe these murmurings given the nature of the films and the previous success of the Tron games.

Naturally there are almost no details as yet, though a cheeky camcorder copy of the recent ComicCon teaser trailer for Tr2n shows the light cycles have been fully resurrected, as have the discs, so we can undoubtedly expect to see these vital gaming commodities in any new supporting titles.

It's also great to hear both Jeff Bridges (Flynn) and Bruce Boxleitner (Tron) are to reprise their roles in the Tr2n sequel.

We can fully expect handheld and mobile versions spanning the current formats, including mobile, iPhone, DS and possibly PSP (if it's still alive). So other than the movie being in the works, we really don't have a great deal more to go on we were just so excited by the news of Tr2n that we had to talk about it!

Here's the bootleg trailer, just to get your digital juices flowing.
