Chillingo launches artsy 59p/99c iOS casual game Storm in a Teacup
Stirring up the platform genre
Chillingo and Cobra Mobile’s Storm in a Teacup has just landed on the New Zealand App Store, meaning the game will be out in the UK from midnight tonight.
Storm in a Teacup is a traditional platformer with some unusual and unorthodox twists, wrapped up in an art design that echoes the look of puppet theatre backdrops, with cardboard-cut outs of objects seemingly placed along tracks.
Playing as spiky-haired Storm - who sits in a teacup, would you believe? - your task is to collect sugar cubes, dodge monsters, and solve physics puzzles across 40 levels spanning a number of dream-like locations.
This is performed not by jumping your character, but by floating the teacup upwards. It’s a twist that means those with nimble fingers will be able to extract a little more oomph from the craft than those who merely hold the button down.
There are badges for each level to earn, secrets to discover, and a Survival mode with its own leaderboards to aim for.
Storm in a Teacup will be released at midnight as a universal app, costing 59p/99c.
