 SPELLING CHALLENGES AND MORE! NEWS

Spelling Challenges and More! destined for DS and PSP

Not the sexiest title, though it is discriptive – sorry, descriptive

Product: Spelling Challenges and More! | Publisher: Crave | Genre: Brain training, Casual
We don't know about you, but if our parents gave us a handheld game with the words 'spelling' and 'challenges' in the title (not to mention the terror-inducing potential of the generic 'and more' tagged on to the end), we'd run for the hills, while texting our solicitor to start brushing up on the issues surrounding disownment. Assuming we could spell the latter, of course.

Crave sees things otherwise, however, and maintains its forthcoming 'game' is bound to appeal to the whole family.

"Movies like Akeelah and the Bee, Bee Season and Spellbound have made spelling bees and word games hot," reasons Doug Panter, Crave's director of brand marketing. "Presenting these games in an entertaining, interactive format on video game consoles is a great way to get the whole family involved in a fun activity and to actually learn something, too."

Okay, so we forgot to mention the spelling challenges are presented in a game show format, with host Mr Niceguy awarding cash and prizes for correct answers. Which, given our insatiable competitive spirit, has us a little more interested.

Aside from the main mode, a series of word games aim to test your skills and improve your brain power (of limited use to us, obviously) and with over 25,000 words and 100 difficulty levels promised, there's certainly plenty of learning to be done.

But there's a time for education. And in what we can only therefore assume is deliberately sadistic move, Crave is currently aiming to release Spelling Challenges and More! during the summer, presumably just in time for the holidays. As such, we suggest our younger readers closely monitor what their parents pack in their bags this year.

Or just take out an injunction order against them buying educational software.
