If you don't know already, OpenFeint is a bit like Xbox Live for iPhone. It tracks your performance in all of the games you play with the platform integrated, allowing you to chat with friends, accumulate achievements, and so on.

It competes with a few similar social platforms on iPhone, but it's probably the best of them, boasting around 700 games and 8 million registered players.

Well, if you have an Android phone of some kind and have been concerned about its future as a gaming platform, this latest piece of news may bring you some comfort: OpenFeint is coming to Android.

How do we know? In an interview with gaming site Gamezebo, Aurora Feint CEO Jason Citron answers a question regarding the likelihood of OpenFeint coming to Android in the following way:

“OpenFeint will be going cross platform to Google Android.”

He then elaborates. “It's just a question of when.”

Elsewhere in the interview Citron reveals that Aurora Feint is to start promoting a free iPhone game every day through its free standalone OpenFeint app.

Again, the full details aren't in place yet, but it seems that this will begin as a means of showcasing apps that are free already before potentially evolving into something more like the Appvent Calendar, which gave away normally paid games for free in the run up to Christmas.
