With the Sony NGP launching some time in the next year, Sony is already preparing its entry with some harsh words about the competition.

Sony Playstation CEO Jack Tretton laid into the Nintendo DS and 3DS systems in a recent interview with Fortune, claiming that they're nothing more than "babysitting tools".

"Our view of the 'Game Boy experience' is that it's a great babysitting tool, something young kids do on airplanes, but no self-respecting twenty-something is going to be sitting on an airplane with one of those," he claims. "He's too old for that."

Of course, given that the Nintendo DS has sold more than 146 million units overall, compared to 67 million for the PSP, perhaps Sony is employing a little bit of damage control.
