Apple rejects iDroid app

Thinly disguised Milestone ad turned away at the door

Product: Motorola Droid | Manufacturer: Motorola
As well as being a spiffing product, much of the buzz surrounding the Android 2.0-powered Motorola Milestone (previously known as the Droid) is down to the aggressively cheeky advertising campaign surrounding its US release.

US network Verizon ran a campaign highlighting everything the Droid handset could do that Apple's couldn't, all while taking the mickey out of the company's own stylised advertising approach.

It seems this cheeky spirit is contagious, as developer Swavv Apps has just had one of its App submissions rejected by Apple. The app, called iDroid, doesn't do much, yet it's managed to raise the hackles of one of the most profitable companies on the planet.

iDroid simply features the glowing red eye associated with the Milestone/Droid. Touching the eye brings up a list of bullet points listing the things the handset does that the iPhone doesn't - such as a physical QWERTY keyboard and multitasking.

No, we wouldn't have bought the app either. But we're impressed by Swavv's nerve all the same.

interesting .. makes you wonder how many people apple have scanning the applications ...

apparently the htc phones will get the android 2.0 upgrade soon as well.

sounds like the ms-dos vs apple war all over again. that is, there are so many android phones coming out and the app market is growing with cheaper applications ..

now if google weren't so device indepedent apple would have a few causes for concern.

either way we have apple to thank for the push in innovation and massive growth of smartphone users in the past couple of years.
