We can only imagine Japanese gamers take an equivalent view over our fascination when it comes to the annual refresh of football management titles – Football Manager versus Champ Manager, etc – as we do with their seemingly endless interest in the resurrection of age-old arcade franchises.

Still, the fact hardcore favourite SNK Playmore seems to have released a 2007 Tokyo Game Show press release that involves an incredibly similar list of games compared to 2006's (albeit with different numbers and consoles next to them) must surprise even the locals.

Metal Slug features, of course, although thankfully the focus is on the new as Metal Slug 7 is announced for DS. It follows the release of PSP's Metal Slug Anthology. Let's hope it manages better than the GBA remake of Metal Slug 1, which was announced last year at TGS, but failed to make release because of limitations in fitting the game within a GBA cartridge.

Another SNK perennial is its The King of Fighters series, and it hasn't been forgotten, with PSP set to receive The King of Fighters Collection: The Orochi Saga (there will also be PS2 and Wii versions).

This will be joined by another reworking of vintage material in the shape of SNK Arcade Classics, which is also aimed at Sony's handheld. There's no mention yet of which of the company's large catalogue of arcade classics will make the cut, though.
