Taking a leaf out of Backbreaker Football's playbook

Distinctive brings footie challenge game Legbreaker Soccer to iPhone and Android

Considering fellow UK studio NaturalMotion has had a massive success with its tacklebox American Football sim Backbreaker Football, it makes sense for Distinctive Developments to attempt something similar with Legbreaker Soccer.

The cheekily-named game also takes a similar cutdown and challenge-based view of sporting endeavour. But instead of making your way through a defensive line to get a touchdown, you have to attack a goal, while dodging the defenders who are out to break your bones with a variety of Vinnie Jones-style challenges.

Home and away

Legbreaker Soccer features a variety of 40 challenges including timed levels, checkpoints and exclusion zones. There's also a Shootout mode, which allows you to practice your scoring skills from static positions as seen in games as Flick Kick Football.

Other options include character customisation so you can ensure your player is just as you want him from haircut to kit colour. And Distinctive teamed up with its local outfit, the Sheffield United Academy to motion capture the players' animation to provide some realism in terms of what the characters get up to.

Legbreaker Soccer will be available from September on iPhone with a launch price of $0.99, €0.79 or 59p.

It will also be available for Android devices priced $1.99.
