Mobile games publisher Gameloft has revealed its financials for the first quarter of 2008. The company saw sales of €25.3 million (£20 million) during the first three months of this year - up 11 per cent from the same period last year.

It seems Gameloft's expansion beyond mobile is starting to have an impact, too. While 94 per cent of those sales came from mobile games, 6 per cent came from other platforms like Nintendo DS and Xbox Live Arcade.

By region, 44 per cent of Gameloft's revenues came from Europe, with 29 per cent from North America and 28 per cent from the rest of the world. The publisher says its North American share is down due to the weak dollar exchange rate against the euro (i.e. dollars are worth less euros than they used to be), and a slowdown in the overall US market.

The interesting thing will be to compare these quarterly figures with those of EA Mobile, which are due in mid May.

The two companies both claim to be the largest mobile games publisher, although since EA separates its DS, console and mobile revenues into separate categories, we'll be sure to do the same with Gameloft's when we compare the latest results.

One final interesting snippet from Gameloft's announcement is this sentence:

"Gameloft also intends to fully leverage its know-how on mass market, online connected consoles that target a similar demographic to the mobile games segment".

Presumably that refers to Gameloft's intentions to release its games as downloadable WiiWare titles, which have already been announced.
