The studio behind 2004's PC title Chaos League – a game of hard-hitting sport, fantasy and real-time strategy – is releasing a similar type of experience for DS and PSP, going by the name of Blood Bowl.

The fantasy tabletop game Blood Bowl, on which the video game is based, was created back in 1987. It takes place in a universe similar to that of Warhammer, populated with the usual assortment of goblins, dwarfs and trolls.

If that puts you off, consider this: it's essentially like American football but played with teams of mutants and giants. What could be more enjoyable? Or have such potential for gory sporting injuries?

Few details on the actual gameplay have been released. Instead, we just have some artwork of a human player about to be smacked round the head by some leathery beast. Which should at least whet your appetite until we get more news of the game, which is currently aiming for a release in the second half of 2008.
