As part of its iTunes Rewind 2010 promotion, Apple has revealed the most downloaded apps on iPhone and iPad in the past 12 months.

There are very few surprises to be found on the iPhone lists: massively popular games like Angry Birds, Doodle Jump, Fruit Ninja, Cut the Rope, and Bejeweled 2 top the paid list, while the free list is mostly populated by non-game apps and demos.

Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies makes a big splash on the top grossing list, meaning it wasn’t downloaded as fervently as some other apps, but its big price tag helped it make a bigger mark on the sales charts.

Also, there was one surprise to be found: a distinct lack of freemium software. We’ll often see games like Smurfs' Village, We Rule, and FarmVille appear on the top grossing list, as addicts pour the contents of their wallets into in-app purchases. But Zombie Farm is the only freemium game to make 2010’s list. A 2011 trend, perhaps?
